Arguments, Discussions, and Evidential Support

I've always been an advocate of an individual making up his or her own mind about any subject or issue. While arguments are engaging experiences, friendly discussions, I believe, are more fruitful in the end. An argument tends to force one to change thier opinion, it puts them on the defense, it proves them "wrong," it makes them submit. However in a discussion when you are talking about various issues, admitting to certain truths, and tossing around ideas, the "end-result," the final decision about something remains your choice to make. It isn't an agressive experience, it is a peaceful experience where someone isn't forced to make up his or her mind about something (since I believe it perfectly ok to have an un-made up mind).

So - Where am I going with this? I believe that there are some basic truths about all situations. However, every decision usually has a lot more than two answers. A lot of people would like to argue for the sake of a "right/wrong" mentality. However, if I've learned anything in my time here at college, it is that there is no such thing. Problems, Dillemmas, Issues never have an easy straight forward answer. There are always multiple parts to the story, about the speaker, the interpreter, the situation, everything affects the final decision. In the end, the decision must be up to the individual, as the decision must rest well with that person and for whom that person claims responsibility.

Sure, Evidence adds something to the story of every dillema. Every argument has evidence, tangible and non-tangible support for a side or an idea. However, I've found that evidence hardly ever points to a final conclusion. It may refute one issue while creating another. Or support one problem and another problem at the same time. Life is not in a courtroom. Our (humanity) issues are multi-dimensional. Surely, if simple evidence easily supported a quick and universal final answer - there would no longer be any problems.

Money, Forwards, and the Like

Fellow Students,

Recently, we have all noticed a large number of emails circulating our once peaceful Brevard College network making promises of money from Mr. Bill Gates.  Aside of the fact that Bill Gates has pledged the majority of his wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (as has Warren Buffet), don't you think it is a bit unbelievable that Bill Gates would give his money to users of email?  His wealth has been based on taking money FROM computer users - why would he reverse that?

Furthermore - this forward has quite a bit of history behind it, all of which shows it to be completely false:

As college students we have learned over our time here to question the unquestionable, challenge the facts, and pursue the unreachable.  Please, don't lose those skills when it comes to email forwards!  We all rely on email for credible college communication between our fellow students, faculty, and staff.  Don't ruin it for everyone by sending worthless emails.

If you still want a shot at Bill Gates' money, I encourage you to pursue a grant or scholarship from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation: http://www.gatesfoundation.org/default.htm

Best of Luck!

In DDR Hell

SO... I've been kidnapped and placed here, right fricken here, in DDR Hell. For those of you that aren't aware of DDR, it is Dance Dance Revolution. A game where you extend your reality through the use of a floor pad into a "dancing game." Now these aren't steps your mother would teach you, no, these are some hip hoppidy steps fit for well, a DDR Competition. My captors, AJR and BB - who are DDR Fiends. However, there is also AB - who just likes to watch but claims to be "good," Sure.

Well, they finally got me to Revolutionize myself on the DDR.... well, lets say that my Foot-Eye coordination is somewhat lacking. I believe they described it as... LOOK, he is tryig to kill bugs on the floor. At first I thought, oh lord, how embarrasing, I can't DDR (which works as both a noun and verb)... but wait, Who in the heck cares about my ability to DDR... then I realized it. I was in judgement. I was being examined for my skills and talents. Here in NV52... DDR is GOD. It is the path by which all who enter are judged. A formidable labryinth where the lion is waiting. Yes. DDR is Lion here and I am with sowrd, defending my life.

Did I pass? I don't know, all I know - is I'm still breathing, still living (unlike poor HUE). I'm thankful to the Lord for this trial, and hope that in Him and through Him by the Ways of DDR, I will become purified and sanctified into the being I am to become.

Dance Dance.

Snow

So, today it snowed a little bit. Enough to cancel work and close schools. Most business were open on a delay. I fear that tomorrow will be even worse however. It started to rain around 4:30 pm today and has continued to rain into the present time. It is supposed to drop below freezing tonight, which probably means all that pretty rain is going to turn into nasty ice!

Tomorrow I have a Senior Project Meeting and another Committee Meeting. Plus I have 2 classes, one of which has a test. I'm pretty studied up for the test, and prepared, but am not that excited about trying to drive to school to make it there in time.

Today I woke up early and cancelled my computer training class for work, then I went back to bed and woke up periodically for the phone. I finally woke up at what felt to be 10:00 in the morning, but turned out to be well after noon, actually around 2:00 PM. I thought perhaps all the clocks had broken. It is funny how bright it is outside when the ground is covered with snow, it made it look so early everytime I woke up. Early enought to make me want to crawl back into bed and sleep!

Well, hopefully the weather won't be too bad tomorrow. As for now I'm going to snuggle up in bed with a nice oven-pizza and my Honors Cosmology book and learn out to cut some hair!

Studying Hard!
